Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:51:53 GMT

The Biden administration on Wednesday announced $3.5 billion for 58 projects across the country to strengthen electric grid resilience as extreme weather events such as the deadly Maui and California wildfires continue to strain the nation’s aging transmission systems. The largest grant, $464 million, will go to improve five transmission projects across Minnesota and six other Midwestern states, from Iowa to North Dakota. The money includes $95 million previously announced for Hawaii in the wake of devastating wildfires this summer, and $150 million to PacifiCorp to upgrade the grid and boost wildfire mitigation in California, Oregon, Utah and other states.Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz said the $464 million grant to the state Department of Commerce and its partners for five high-voltage transmission lines in seven states will spur about $1 billion in private investments, reducing costs to ratepayers and providing communities with a range of benefits.“Minnesota is proud to lead the way on d...

Kiszla: Free Justin Simmons! Broncos captain deserves better than to go down with this sinking ship.

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:51:53 GMT

Broncos safety Justin Simmons is living proof that bad football happens to good people.Free Justin Simmons. He deserves better than this stinkin’ mess in Denver. If the Broncos do nothing else between now and the NFL trade deadline on Oct. 31, here’s hoping they do right by Simmons and let him join a team that knows how to win.His tale of football woe has been well-documented: Simmons arrived in 2016 as a third-round draft choice, too late to ride in the victory parade celebrating Super Bowl 50, but just in time to huddle around a dumpster fire nobody knows how to extinguish. Now in his eighth NFL season, Simmons has never been to the playoffs, lost 75 of 120 games and listened to five head coaches sell him a bill of goods. After being conditioned to disappointment, does a man ever get used to the bitter taste of defeat?“It doesn’t get any easier,” Simmons said Wednesday. This might be the worst team in the 64-season history of the Broncos, and know what the real bummer is? It co...

Newsom signs bill allowing cities, counties to ban artificial turf

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 08:51:53 GMT

Despite increasing popularity due to a yearslong statewide drought, artificial turf is a new enemy of the California State Legislature.A bill signed into law by Governor Newsom this year would allow cities and counties to ban synthetic lawns over health concerns associated with so-called “forever chemicals,” or PFAS, that have been linked to health concerns, including cancer. An environmental expert at USC said more research should be done to determine the actual health impact, but was concerned about the plastics entering the water supply.Newsom stopped short of an outright ban on the turf as he vetoed a different bill that would have banned the "forever chemicals" and, in effect, the fake turf.

Kennedy Jr., President John F. Kennedy’s nephew, who is now running for president. Kennedy wrote the foreword and promoted the book, tweeting that it details data showing ” COVID shots are a crime against humanity.”The Faheys couldn’t understand how Braden’s face appeared on the book’s cover, or why his name appeared inside it.Braden never received the vaccine.
