Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 11:16:10 GMT

Another offshore wind developer took a major step Tuesday toward scrapping its initial plans for an installation in waters off the coast of Martha’s Vineyard. SouthCoast Wind, whose pair of successful bids represented a combined 1,200 megawatts of anticipated offshore wind power, agreed to pay utility companies $60 million to terminate contracts the parties previously struck for the clean energy. The penalty would be divided into $32.4 million for Eversource, $27.3 million for National Grid and $591,000 for Unitil, according to contract amendments filed with the Department of Public Utilities. The utility companies would then credit the payments to their ratepayers through contract adjustments. The move makes official the developer’s attempt to cancel existing contracts after months of warning that the project was no longer financially viable under the negotiated prices as a result of economic trends. Michael King’s transition back to the Yankees rotation is off to a strong start. The right-hander’s four shutout innings in Tuesday night’s win over the Detroit Tigers impressed Yankees manager Aaron Boone, who isn’t ruling out a long-term role as a starting pitcher for King.“He definitely has the weapons to do it,” Boone said. “It’s just a matter of transitioning and can he then hold the stuff in extended outings? … With what he’s been through now in his career, and the confidence he’s gained as a pitcher in this league, and I think a real good understanding of what he has and what he can use, I wouldn’t be surprised at anything he’s able to do.”Tuesday marked the third start of the season for King, who started 59 games in the minor leagues, as well as 10 for the Yankees across 2020 and 2021.King operated exclusively out of the Yankees’ bullpen in 2022, when he pitched to a 2.29 ERA over 51 inn...

Europe’s foremost human rights organization and aid groups condemned the move as reneging on international commitments. Belgium has long come under criticism for failing to provide enough shelter to the thousands of people who are seeking protection from persecution back home. Long lines of tents along streets outside the main processing center in Brussels have become a stain on Belgium’s reputation. On Wednesday, Asylum State Secretary Nicole de Moor said increasing pressure on asylum housing was expected over the coming months and she wanted “absolutely to avoid children ending up in the streets this winter.” Instead, single men will have to fend for themselves. According to the EU Agency for Asylum, male applicants last year accounted for 71% of asylum claims. B...
